Don’t standardize the wrong things: A mental model for product operations
As product organizations scale, Product Operations teams are often pulled toward increasing standardization — roadmaps, intake processes, planning cycles and other rituals — in the name of efficiency. But many teams find that while processes and artifacts look cleaner, work doesn't actually move faster. Product Ops becomes the glue that holds things together... or worse, introduces friction by forcing different kinds of work through the same infrastructure. This session explores how Product Ops leaders can step back from default standardization and instead design ways of working that reflect the reality of the environment. Learn how to assess processes through a structural lens, identify what truly benefits from being shared and intentionally tailor when stakeholder needs diverge. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for redesigning Product Ops systems and a clear sense of how Product Ops creates leverage at scale.
