Don’t standardize the wrong things: A mental model for product operations
In product operations, the pressure to standardize processes can feel urgent but standardizing work that isn’t ready often creates friction, slows teams, and generates endless “glue” work. In this keynote, we’ll introduce a practical framework to help you distinguish between two types of work: Flow Process: Sequential, repeatable work that benefits from operationalization. Job Shop: Bespoke, non-sequential work that thrives on flexibility. By understanding which category your work falls into, you can make smarter standardization decisions, reduce unnecessary operational overhead, and empower your teams to work more efficiently. Attendees will leave with a mental model they can apply immediately to audit their processes and avoid the pitfalls of premature standardization.
