Prioritisation without the ceremony: The product you don't build
In regulated organisations, every stakeholder has one more thing that "just" needs adding. A list of PDFs becomes a document hub. A bell icon becomes a notifications centre. Each is a platform to build, secure and maintain for years. This session shows how I've pushed back on both in consumer financial services apps, without ignoring the legal and customer needs underneath. You'll see how to put running costs, not build costs, in front of senior stakeholders; how to solve each use case on its merits with something small or something that already exists; and why removing things needs the same discipline, and the same reward, as shipping them. I'll also show how to turn strategy into a roadmap people actually use: easy to find, easy to read, and a mirror of what teams are really planning.
Attendee takeaways:
- A running-cost view that reframes build requests for finance, risk and compliance stakeholders
- A simple test for whether a need calls for a platform or just a solution
- A way to make strategy and roadmaps easy to use for front-line teams, not only leaders
